Sustainability

While actively developing our business, Hong Kong Gourmet keeps to make efforts on implementing a number of sustainable measures to minimize the impacts on environment and society from our business, and advocating the importance of protecting the ecological environment and sustainable development. In terms of diet, we have always initiated low-carbon diet and launched a number of healthy and delicious vegetarian meals. Since 2012, we have become a partner of the "Super Green Monday" to actively promote healthy vegetarianism, for purpose of helping schools and community to practice green and low-carbon life, as well as popularizing relevant information. In addition, we have launched a series of initiatives to create long-term and stable values for the community, our business and staff.

Caring for the Community and Staff

  • We were awarded and named as "Caring Company" by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service for multiple years, for recognition of our commitment in caring for the community, staff and environment, and actively fulfilling the corporate social responsibilities
  • In collaboration with the Labour Department and the Labour and Welfare Bureau, we joined the "Good Employer Charter" and the "Talent-Wise Employment Charter". We were honored to be awarded the "Friendly Employment Award" and the "Outstanding Inclusive Team Award", for recognition of creating job opportunities for disadvantages groups with practical training
  • Set up family leave for staff, so they can take timely rest and enjoy domestic bliss with their families
  • Provide subsidized lunch, free medical protection, free shuttle bus service, shopping discount and other benefits, to care for the needs of staff
  • Provide continuing education subsidy for staff to encourage them to keep learning and enrich themselves
  • Provide safety and health training courses for staff to improve their safety awareness and avoid injury in the workplace

Promoting Electronization

  • Provide online ordering service and expand the participating school network in phases to reduce paper consumption
  • To meet the market needs with science and technology, online survey is created and used to collect customers' opinions for optimizing the measures and continuously improving our service quality

Reduce Waste of Resources

  • In addition to provide recyclable disposable plastic lunch boxes, schools and organizations are encouraged to choose environmental-friendly lunch boxes that can be reused after cleaning
  • Provide environmental-friendly tableware to students when a new semester starts, to encourage students to bring their own tableware in the future
  • Use reusable food containers and tableware under the operation of on-site meal portioning and green canteen. We try our best to avoid wastage and distribute food according to the needs of each customer
  • When we order food ingredients, we calculate the quantity accurately according to the actual consumption for reducing kitchen waste

Recycling

  • A professional recycling company was employed to recycle and process plastic lunch boxes
  • Participated the "Food Waste Recycling Programme" that implemented by the Environmental Protection Department, and the food waste was transported to O · PARK1, the organic resources recovery centre locating at Siu Ho Wan, where food waste was converted into biogas for electricity generation
  • Arranged professional recycling company to recycle waste cooking oils and recycle it to produce industrial products for avoiding environmental pollution that caused by improper treatment

Recovery and the Recycling Process

  • Transport the food waste that collected from schools & organizations to the factory

  • Disposable plastic lunch boxes & food waste are classified by personnel & machine

  • Use professional equipment to break & clean the classified plastic lunch boxes

  • Pack the broken plastic materials properly

  • Ready to be transported to the manufacturing factory for recycling into various plastic products

  • Transport the classified food waste to O · PARK1, the organic resources recovery centre locating at Siu Ho Wan

  • Food waste is converted into biogas for electricity generation at O · PARK1
